Full Time Medical Officer, Palliative Care
Hospice Southland, Invercargill, New Zealand
Hospice Southland offers a full time Medical Officer position, available from 13 May 2013.
We are seeking a dedicated medical practitioner on SHO or registrar level. The position is also suitable for General Practitioners or other colleagues interested in comprehensive palliative care.
We are inviting doctors who are interested in either a temporary or permanent position to apply. Part time assignment (minimum 6 hours per day) can be discussed as well.
The Medical Officer (MO) will provide day to day management of IPU patients under the guidance and supervision of the Medical Director, primarily in the eight-bed Palliative Medicine Inpatient Unit. They will also participate in an on-call roster.
Our medical team consists of Medical Director, full time second Palliative Medicine Specialist, part time GP and MO.
Applicants need to be comfortable with working in a team environment with a typical flat-hierarchy team approach. Excellent communication skills and acceptance of the paradigms of Palliative Care are essential.
Hospice Southland is the only Palliative Care Specialist Provider for the whole region of Southland, comprising 100,000 residents. We have strong co-operation and share the grounds with Southland Hospital.
Invercargill, the capital of Southland, boasts multiple leisure opportunities. Proximity to Stewart Island, Fiordland and the Catlins provides opportunities for unique nature experiences. Queenstown’s ski fields are well within reach for weekend excursions. In Summer, Invercargill’s natural beach provides great opportunities for families and for water sports.
