Territory Palliative Care and the Alice Springs Hospital are looking for a Palliative Care Physician or Senior Trainee for locum positions. Negotiable duration.

Territory Palliative Care central Australia, based at Alice Springs Hospital, services a diverse population of 70,000 people across Central Australia. With 120 referrals per annum, TPC provides services for ASH inpatient and outpatient consultations and community palliative care for the urban & surrounding communities of Alice Springs and supporting the remote communities of Central Australia, including Tennant Creek and the Barkly region and the Pitjantjatara regions.

TPC Central Australia is a dynamic, developing and diverse team with a Clinical Nurse Manager, 1 Clinical Nurse Consultant, 1 Social Worker- Bereavement Coordinator, 1 Aboriginal Health Worker, 1 Administrative Officer and connections with community and hospital OT, PT, dietician, and community care nurses.

The central team is supported by the Top End Team based in Darwin as well as the territory wide positions of the Palliative Care Medical Director, a Palliative Care Network and Quality coordinator. The case-mix and diversity of patients is unique in Australia with more than 45% of referrals being Aboriginal and 40% of referrals coming from rural/ remote communities.

The clinical work is challenging and exciting requiring the full range of palliative care knowledge and skills, with a 65: 35 malignant to non-malignant ratio of patients. We work closely with haematology, oncology, general medicine and surgery, anaesthetic pain services and the chronic disease networks. Although urban based, the locum may be involved with outreach visits to remote communities and towns with other team members and they will be part of a 1 in 3 on-call medical roster (supported by Top End medical team).

Cranford Hospice - Hastings, Hawke's Bay, New Zealand Palliative Care Medical Officer - four days per week

Cranford Hospice is a community based, Specialist Palliative Care service based in Hastings with an 8 bed inpatient unit, which serves the wider Hawke?s Bay region. Its proximity to mountains, beautiful coastlines and vineyards offers unique lifestyle choices.

We are seeking a part time medical officer to join our interdisciplinary team. The position involves working four days per week and one in six weekends

Key responsibilities involve working with Cranford?s medical, nursing, pharmacy and family support teams in providing specialist palliative care for patients and their families / whanau. The role also involves care of patients in their homes through liaising with our specialist palliative care nursing team, other community based stakeholders including general practice teams and other support staff. There is a close working relationship with the Hospital Palliative Care Team.

This appointment would suit an experienced palliative care doctor who is keen to expand their knowledge and skills within this rapidly developing specialty. The successful applicant will demonstrate the ability to work well as part of a wider interdisciplinary team.

The Medical Team currently comprises 3 Palliative Care Specialists and 3 experienced Medical Officers.

Consultant – Palliative Care

Our Palliative Care team at Counties Manukau District Health Board is looking for a suitably qualified Consultant to join their multidisciplinary team.

This role will be based at Middlemore hospital as well as working within the community units at Pukekohe and Waiuku. Our passionate team aims to provide excellent care to the community of South Auckland which has a diverse and growing population of 450,000.

Registration with the NZ Medical Council as a palliative medicine specialist is essential.

Palliative Care Registrar – Training or non-training positions available - Brisbane.

You will be responsible, in consultation with Palliative Care Medical Specialists, for the delivery of medical palliative care to inpatients and outpatients referred to the Brisbane South Palliative Care Service. Also, you will be involved in established education and research programs and provide clinical support and set a professional example to junior clinical staff employed at QE11 Jubilee and Princess Alexandra Hospitals. The positions are accredited with the Royal Australian College of Physicians, Chapter of Palliative Medicine.

The Brisbane South Palliative Care Service has an interdisciplinary model of care and operates care across teaching hospitals, an acute palliative care unit and community-based environments including residential and aged care facilities. It has up to 2,000 admissions per year and provides excellent training opportunities.

Community Based Registrar

Palliative Care
Joint position between Peter Mac, East Melbourne and Mercy Hospice, Sunshine (Predominantly based at Mercy Hospice)

The Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre is a comprehensive cancer centre providing medical, radiation and surgical oncology, and palliative care. The research activities of the Centre are well established and are a core activity informing clinical practice.

Mercy Hospice is a community resource covering City of Brimbank, City of Hobson's Bay, City of Maribyrnong, City of Melbourne, City of Moonee Valley, City of Wyndham and Shire of Melton.

A new Registrar position has been created under the Expanded Setting for Specialist Training Program for a Palliative Medicine specialty training position. The Registrar will be based at Peter MacCallum and work in the community, with the Mercy Western Palliative Care service. The aim of the position is to provide holistic palliative care to patients and their carers in the community, working within an expert community palliative care service. In addition, the position will include participating in two outpatient clinics and the research and academic program at Peter MacCallum.

There are two six-month positions. The first was available from February 2008 and the second in August 2008. We would be open to applications for more than six months given the existing vacancy. This position is included in the Registrar Rotation Program in Palliative Medicine and would be an excellent opportunity for advanced training in palliative medicine. It would suit a person with previous experience in areas such as palliative care, geriatric medicine, general practice or oncology. The position would be accredited for the Clinical Diploma of Palliative Medicine, College of Physicians.

Territory Palliative Care Central Australia, provides multidisciplinary consultation and support to inpatient and community patients in the Alice Springs, Tennant Creek and the rural/ remote communities of Central Australia. Territory Palliative Care Central Australia is an integral part of the Territory Palliative Care network and support is given to the medical officer by the Network, the Top end team,s doctors, the Director of Palliative Medicine for the Northern Territory and Alice Springs Hospital,s Department of Internal medicine in which the applicant is a member.

Alice Springs Hospital is a 177-bed teaching hospital affiliated with Flinders Medical School. The Medical Department is supported by the Departments of Emergency Medicine, Surgery, and Radiology, the Intensive Care Unit, and full laboratory facilities as well as a number of visiting sub-specialists.

We are a close-knit team and very enthusiastic about our work! The clinical work is challenging and exciting and requires the full range of palliative care knowledge and skills.

With half the palliative care referrals involving Indigenous Australians, chronic disease and non-malignant palliative care makes up a significant part of the work and the physician will be involved with outreach visits to remote communities and towns with other team members.
